Each year Nibley Fellowships are awarded to graduate students working on their PhD degrees in accredited graduate programs at universities throughout the country and abroad. Our goal is to help as many qualified applicants as possible, and by this means to foster and nurture the next generation of faithful scholars who we trust will contribute to and further the broad range of work supported by the Institute. Depending upon the availability of funding and the number of successful candidates, awards range from a few hundred dollars to sometimes several thousand dollars. Funds are sent directly to the Fellow's university, in his or her name, and can be used as the Fellow designates.

The award process is competitive. Individuals awarded fellowships in the past must reapply each year. Successful candidates can receive fellowships a total of six times. The deadline for submitting completed application forms and all supporting documentation is July 31, 2012. An application form is included below, along with instructions on to how to apply and a list of additional material that needs to be submitted.

Successful candidates must be enrolled as full-time graduate students, pursuing a PhD in disciplines directly related to the work of the Maxwell Institute. Our focus is the study of texts, particularly religious texts, including all of the canonized scripture of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as other significant texts important to the three major Abrahamic faiths--Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. On occasion, fellowships may be awarded to students in master's degree programs who are intent on working toward a PhD in these same areas of study.

Maxwell Institute employees (full or part time), persons formally associated with the Institute, or those related to employees or associates, are not eligible to apply for Nibley Fellowships.
